Born to a stand-up comedian and an actress, Knoxville-raised Sam Hatmaker assumed from a very young age that everyone was just supposed to be on stage, so she decided she would become a singer. At 10
years old, her path became even more clear when she began performing in shows at Dollywood (even though by then she had figured out that not
everyone had to be on stage). She moved to Nashville after signing her first publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music at the age of 16. In 2019 Sam recorded her debut EP with Grammy award-winning
producer Nathan Chapman.
Sam performed at Grinder House Coffee in early June for our local event, Friday At The Crossroads and were so impressed we are welcoming her back to the 'In the House' stage.

Sophia John, guest on the New Music Food TruckThis week's menu we got to Sweden to meet "The Best Band Since The Black-Eyed Peas," Internet Friends!  Internet Friends is the creation of Fredrik Soila, Jakob Falkendal and Noel Hassling Offrell who grew up together in Gothenburg, a city known as “Little London” that is fast becoming one of Europe’s capitals of culture.Constantly in an underdog position, professional martyrs Fredrik, Jakob and Noel keep proving to suits with vague competence that modern day pop can be both bold and ticklish at the same time. You may recognize them by their their ultra-catchy hooks that must be stolen from somewhere, their humbleness, but most of all their live shows that always turn into the best party you’ve ever been to. The band formed in 2018 and after self releasing the first singles the band were fast gaining the attention of the music business in Sweden and internationally, eventually signing to Berlin’s Duchess Box Records in a coop with their distributor Redeye/Border Music. Cousin Corey talks with the the guys on this week's Blue Plate Special.

Grinder House Productions presents "Ground N The Round" with host Jamie Adamson.  Every month, Jamie will make the expedition up the Plateau and will introduce us to some of the best writers in all of Tennessee. He has shared stages with some and written songs with many. The stories are enthralling, tapestries woven into song. So intimate, it's like being in your own living room.

Special Guests this month include Ryan Larkins and Janelle Arthur.

Megan Barker

Ryan Larkins was born and raised in Nashville where he “caught the bug”—picking up the guitar and starting to write his own songs at age twelve. Ryan frequently performed at church, and there he learned to master the stage. In 2009, Ryan competed in the television singing competition show on CMT, Can You Duet, where he and his singing partner finished in third place. Memorably, the duo stood out when they surprised judges by singing the classic “Tennessee Waltz,” while other groups opted for contemporary selections.
Two years later, Ryan released his original EP, Follow Me, and followed up with an acoustic project in 2013. In the spring of 2017, Ryan competed and won first place in WSM’s Road Show Talent Competition. As he did in the television competition, Ryan performed country classics “That’s the Way Love Goes” by Merle Haggard and “When You Say Nothing At All” by Keith Whitley.
Clearly, Ryan has a solid foundation in traditional country music; however, it is not his only musical influence. He covers songs in the pop, gospel, and R&B genres, as well, and these influences are apparent in his original compositions. The range of songwriters he has worked with over the years also showcase his musical interests across genres and within country music. He has worked with the likes of Jessi Alexander, Country Hall of Fame Member Bill Anderson, Steve Bogard, Scooter Carusoe, Monty Criswell, Tom Douglas, JT Harding, Connie Harrington, Tim Nichols, and Tony Lane.
Ryan recently signed with THiS Music publishing company, a subsidiary of Warner Chappell. A lot of great things are on the horizon.

Janelle Arthur

Rising from her humble roots in the heart of the Smoky Mountains to international exposure as a top finalist on television’s American Idol, Janelle Arthur continues to astound fans with her unyielding songwriting talent, pure and compelling vocals, and her undisputed dominion of the stage.
Janelle is no stranger to the spotlight. She began performing at Dollywood when she was 8 years old portraying one of her musical heroes, a young Dolly Parton. From that time and thousands of shows later, she has had the opportunity to be a guest on The Today Show, The Kelly & Michael Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Access Hollywood, and Today in Nashville. Thanks to her loyal followers, her social media fan base is now around 150,000 on combined social media networks.
As an entertainer, Janelle has had the pleasure of opening shows for or performing with: Vince Gill, Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan, and The Band Perry. Her lifetime dream to perform on the world-famous “Grand Ole Opry” became a reality on June 19, 2013, and she has been a repeated guest many times since then.
As a daughter of the South steeped in family ties, tradition, and truthfulness, Janelle Arthur’s music is reflective of who she is and exemplifies her way of life. As evidence in “Love You Anyway,” a compelling song written by Arthur (featuring multi-Grammy award winner Vince Gill) is honest, persuasive, and real. Her self-titled debut EP including this collaboration is available on Spotify and iTunes.

Jamie Adamson

Jamie Adamson began playing guitar at the age of 13 and like his Grandfather soon was making music on stage. Jamie began playing a snare and hi hat in church along side Ray Thompson from Mobile Alabama and developed that itch that all musicians get! By the time he turned 19 Jamie was playing locally in Mobile at local clubs like Austin's Country Palace, The Wild Wild West, other venues around the south. It wasn't long Jamie was packing his bags and heading north to Nashville where he spent the next 19 years developing his style, his voice, and his writing skills. Jamie shared a stage with greats like Steve Cropper, Jerry Waddell, Blind Mississippi Morris, Mark Collie, Terry Lee Burns, and Steve Saunders. All these talented individuals shared their love for music with Jamie and helped him build a solid foundation that will carry him through the rest of his career. So, if you love music, real honest music, with heartfelt lyrics, just take a listen and you will hear the difference.
Every month, Jamie will make the expedition up the Plateau to introduce us to some of the best writers in all of Tennessee. He has shared stages with some and written songs with many. The stories are enthralling, tapestries woven into song. So intimate, it's like being in your own living room. Once Experienced. Never Forgotten.

Ancient Echoes

This week's menu we feature the Experimental Psychedelic Rock Band based in Denver, Colorado Ancient Echoes! Ancient Echoes has been called "the Zeppelin of our time", "Tool meets grunge", and "the pioneers of 20’s rock”. The magic behind music, however, is that it can only be experienced through, well... experience. Anyone can sound good with modern production and a sizable budget, but few wield the power to crumble the walls of Jericho. Ancient Echoes is among the anointed elites that can summon the Sirens to swoon any crowd.

A powerful underground herbalist, a Berklee School of Music masters grad, a mixed martial artist, and a pure-hearted hippie were led to collide by the winds of destiny. A chaotic tornado of seismic proportions unfolded into a true masterpiece; a self-titled debut album that has broken the simulation. Though this mysterious and elusive group has origins from different geographic locations and diverse life experiences, they are currently head-quartered in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where they frequently enjoy epic hikes, casual rounds of disc-golf, and pursuing their passion of studying health and wellness. With the release of their long-awaited debut album, they look to touring heavily beginning in 2022. Cousin Corey heads to high country on this week's Blue Plate Special

John Salaway
Frontman. Acclaimed Grammy considered songwriter. Sideman. Nationally-endorsed multi-instrumentalist. Producer. Since moving to Nashville in the early 2000s, John Salaway has become one of the city's most accomplished musicians, holding down a weekly residency at the world-class BB King's Blues Club while also playing shows with acts like Peter Frampton, Ben Folds, Anderson East, Zach Williams, and Denny Laine from the Moody Blues and Paul McCartney's Wings. He's a drummer. A guitarist. A pianist. And with albums like 2019's Americana Dreams, he shows the full range of his abilities, mixing a lifelong appreciation for the Beatles' classic pop melodies with the southern-fried sounds of his adopted hometown. Salaway’s recent album ‘Salvation’ features musicians from Foo Fighters, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cage the Elephant, Smashing Pumpkins, Anderson East, Peter Frampton’s band and more! The album has been on hundreds of radio stations around the world and featured in American Songwriter magazine, UK Americana association & more!

Phantom Lady
Phantom Lady embodies many seemingly opposing characteristics, and yet, they find a cohesive harmony in her. She is ethereal, spiritual, and emotionally honest. But she is also haunting, mysterious, and powerful. In addition to being a skilled composer, pianist and singer, her lyrics are brilliantly poetic. She weaves melodies in a manner that is so unique and yet so familiar to all her listeners. It is hard to bind her genre to a specific musical category since her influences are from a wide range of genres and artists; she pulls inspiration from grunge rock, blues, alternative, classical, and so much more.

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, and raised in rural Vermont, she lived in New York City for a few years until settling in Nashville, TN. Just months after moving to Nashville, she met the multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter John Salaway at a church Christmas party. A few months later (during quarantine due to Covid-19) he produced her album in his studio, Music First Productions. Complete with 10 songs, the album features Salaway on guitar, bass, and drums, with Phantom Lady on keys, synthesizer, organ, harpsichord, and vocals.
Her single, Tattoo on My Heart, is out now on all streaming platforms and is currently featured on Indie radio all over the world and in the top20 on the Radio Indie Alliance Charts. It is the first single to be released from the upcoming album, In Bloom, which will be released in early 2022.
