Highway Natives is an American rock 5-piece out of Nashville, TN. With "a retro ‘70s vibe combined with roots-flavored country-rock brawn, Highway Natives conjures up early Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, and savors of the fictional band Stillwater in Almost Famous," (Medium). Having such a wide array of eclectic influences, at their core, the group can best be distinguished by their rich, soulful harmonies, artful full-bodied stylings on guitar, and a rhythm section that’s groovy timekeeping is nestled tightly underneath singable and raw lyrics that trade between the two lead singers.

Made up of Brandon Moore, Jordan Miller, Matt Drummey, Artie Scarazzo, and Arthur Stover, Highway Natives was originally formed as a duo in mid-2019 when Moore and Miller recognized their songwriting compatibility, and created together as an escape from the rigorous and hectic music business where they worked behind-the-scenes at a record label and a recording studio. After recording demos with large, full band productions, they realized what they really longed for was a sonically larger live sound, as well as a collective group to share the vision with. With a careful selection, Drummey, Scarazzo, and Stover were brought on and the group quickly solidified and started hitting the road together.

In May of 2021, the group released their first project, a self-titled EP; 4 carefully selected songs from a catalog of songs they were already playing live. Highway Natives debut EP went on to receive acclaim from publications such as American Songwriter and Medium, and took them to stages all over the southeastern region of the USA.

Following their EP, some members of the group went through personal, life-changing events, on top of being in the midst of a global pandemic. As serious changes and adaptations were happening in their personal lives, the Natives lifted each other through writing and creating music as a remedy. The time spent together in this period of their career resulted in the making of their first full length LP, “West of the Blindside,” out now.

The Jolly String Quartet, Russian-born siblings with an amazing story, mix velvet vocals and fiery fiddling with red-hot mandolin and guitar for a blend of folk, pop, jazz, blues, gospel, and newgrass, featuring songs from Sinatra to Cash. This remarkable group has graced the stages of The Opry House, Carnegie Hall, The Country Music Hall of Fame, and The Ryman Auditorium and have entertained in venues as diverse as Nashville’s Puckett’s Restaurant and the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas. Stunningly skillful musicianship and diversity of style – along with a compelling story of redemption from the darkness of a Russian orphanage – produce a concert experience that is certain to intrigue and entertain. Viktor, Gorsha, Yara, and Kristina Jolly, who make up The Jolly String Quartet, were born in Far East Russia, but they now have deep Southern roots that enrich their music with all-American values of freedom, faith, and family. Russian beginnings, an American upbringing, and the flair of a fiery fiddle make music that is both extraordinary and just plain old hand-clapping fun.

FousheéThis week's menu  we feature a singer-songwriter and guitarist from New Jersey, Fousheé!  Britanny Fousheé, known professionally as Fousheé came to wide notice when the vocals for her song "Deep End" were used on a hit by rapper Sleepy Hallow in 2020. Fousheé was born and raised in New Jersey. Her Jamaican mother was a drummer for PEP, an all-woman 1980s Jamaican reggae band. Fousheé wrote her first song when she was five. In her younger years she studied voice, media, classical music, background arranging, guitar, and piano and performed with groups she had formed with her childhood friends. She attended Bridgewater-Raritan High School and continued her musical activities into college. She released her debut EP Speak Up in May 2018  Fousheé’s voice sounds like the sentient form of nails scratching against a chalkboard, but it’s so sharp, so memorable, that you absolutely want to hear it again. She’s also a Grammy-nominated songwriter in addition to being a powerful and distinctive singer. Cousin Corey sets up a double play from her on this week's Blue Plate Special.

Blue October

This week's menu we feature a hard workin' American rock band from San Marcos, Texas, Blue October! Blue October is best known for it’s shimmering melodies and heart-string pulling lyrics, and boasts one of the most emotionally charged and magnetic front men in music today in Justin Furstenfeld.
