[Update October 8, 2022] - Asa gives an update on tonight's show.  Joining and backing up Delnora Reed this evening will be the Tonya Tucker Band, a 4-Piece a band and lead guitar drum set!

Delnora is a singer/songwriter based just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. She grew up in Princeton, WV and has been performing her signature blend of roots, country and folk music across the country since she was a teenager, continuing a long and distinguished family tradition in music.
"Music’s in the bloodlines for Delnora Reed; her great-grandfather Henry Reed’s fiddle tunes are a centerpiece of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Her own efforts, while steeped in old-time country and bluegrass, are considerably more contemporary. Such songs as “Sleepwalking” split the difference between Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin, with hushed sincerity and gutsy delivery." ~ K. Oliver

Delnora was a founding member of Blue Eyed Grass, a critically acclaimed duo. In addition to writing and performing music, she managed the duo, promoted it nationwide, and produced three studio albums. When the duo ended, she turned her attention back to being a solo act. Throughout her career she has written with some of Nashville’s finest songwriters. A few years ago she began working with Reed Nielson (“My Town”, “Little Liza Jane”, and many more). They collaborated on six remarkable songs that formed the backbone of her solo project, “My Song”.

In 2019, Delnora released the single “When You’re Gone” to Inspirational Country Radio was rewarded both with a place on the charts and a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year at ICMA Awards. With the follow-up release of her single “Battlecry” she, again, hit the charts and is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year in 2020. Currently, Delnora is working on a new project, “Blank Page”. Five of its songs were co-written with ICMA Songwriter of the Year Corey Lee Barker, and has enlisted the help of Chris Golden, the reigning ICMA Entertainer of the Year, as co-producer.

"There is a hidden gem in Nashville that deserves more recognition than she has ever received by the name of Delnora Reed. She has one of the prettiest voices in Music City and has finally released a new record titled, My Song. Her voice is so pure you can hear the emotions with every word… After reviewing her albums for some time, it has been an honor to see her grow as an artist and with the results of My Song she has finally found her mark." ~ Scott Sexton

Delnora has shared the stage with Craig Morgan, Carl Jackson, Larry Cordle, Jerry Salley, Marty Stuart, Jeff Bates, Eddie Stubbs, The Chuck Wagon Gang, Chris Golden, Joe Allen, Stella Parton, Georgette Jones, Paul Thorn, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Buddy Jewell, Leona Williams, Leonard Ahlstrom, Jason Deere, Jan Howard, Roy Clark, Jr., Jett Williams, Billy Yates, Buck Moore, Gary Duffey, Ed Bruce, Mark Alan Cash, Tommy Barnes, Joey and Rory, Ashley Campbell, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Jessie McReynolds and so many more. She also recorded as a member of the trio The Shotgun Rubies for Grammy Award winner Carl Jackson’s remarkable project, “Orthophonic Joy – The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited”, which was released on Sony Records.

Hippo CampusThis week's menu  we feature a singer-songwriter born in Denver but comes via New York City to Nashville, AJ Smith!  AJ Smith’s unconventional path to becoming a pop artist is reflected throughout his music, which has the uncanny ability to evoke a nostalgic desire for dramatic pop of decades past while sounding modern, fresh, and in-the-moment emotional.  A flare for the dramatic is likely written into his DNA - AJ’s father ran away and literally joined the circus, while his Great Great Uncle was famed Cuban pianist Ernesto Lecuona, who composed the famed standard “Malagueña”.  It's no surprise then, that Smith’s songwriting and performance abilities have earned multiple awards, including the prestigious Abe Olman Scholarship from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a semi-finalist ranking in the 2020 International Songwriting Contest.  Recent highlights include making his national TV debut on The Kelly Clarkson show, consistent airplay on SiriusXM, the cover feature as Performer Magazine’s Artist of the Month, collaborating with Martin Guitar’s launch of a new line of ukuleles (which included teaching a SpaceX astronaut how to play a Black Pumas song in space!)...and stories in American Songwriter, Good Morning America, CBS Radio, Spin Magazine, and more. Cousin Corey has this amazing hot fresh talented guy on this week's Blue Plate Special.

Hippo CampusThis week's menu  we feature a band that started on a Caribbean trip, Rare Americans!  Rare Americans - Crooked & Catchy. The band started on a whim two years ago when brothers James and Jared Priestner took an impromptu trip to the Caribbean. James joked they should try and write a song together, Jared said “A song? Fuck that, lets write an album!” Sure enough 10 days later the first Rare Americans record was born. Spring forward to 2021, the band has gained a reputation for storytelling and genre-blending fresh music, amassing over 200M cross platform streams. The bands roster includes two Slovak guitar virtuoso’s in Lubo Ivan & Jan Cajka, and Duran Ritz on drums. Cousin Corey has these Canadians on this week's Blue Plate Special.

Grinder House Productions presents "Ground N The Round" with host Jamie Adamson.  Every month, Jamie will make the expedition up the Plateau and will introduce us to some of the best writers in all of Tennessee. He has shared stages with some and written songs with many. The stories are enthralling, tapestries woven into song. So intimate, it's like being in your own living room.

Special Guests this month include Ryan Larkins and Ethan Phillips.

Megan Barker

Ryan Larkins was born and raised in Nashville where he “caught the bug”—picking up the guitar and starting to write his own songs at age twelve. Ryan frequently performed at church, and there he learned to master the stage. In 2009, Ryan competed in the television singing competition show on CMT, Can You Duet, where he and his singing partner finished in third place. Memorably, the duo stood out when they surprised judges by singing the classic “Tennessee Waltz,” while other groups opted for contemporary selections.
Two years later, Ryan released his original EP, Follow Me, and followed up with an acoustic project in 2013. In the spring of 2017, Ryan competed and won first place in WSM’s Road Show Talent Competition. As he did in the television competition, Ryan performed country classics “That’s the Way Love Goes” by Merle Haggard and “When You Say Nothing At All” by Keith Whitley.
Clearly, Ryan has a solid foundation in traditional country music; however, it is not his only musical influence. He covers songs in the pop, gospel, and R&B genres, as well, and these influences are apparent in his original compositions. The range of songwriters he has worked with over the years also showcase his musical interests across genres and within country music. He has worked with the likes of Jessi Alexander, Country Hall of Fame Member Bill Anderson, Steve Bogard, Scooter Carusoe, Monty Criswell, Tom Douglas, JT Harding, Connie Harrington, Tim Nichols, and Tony Lane.
Ryan recently signed with THiS Music publishing company, a subsidiary of Warner Chappell. A lot of great things are on the horizon.

Ethan Phillips

Ethan Phillips is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter from Clayton, Georgia. He began playing guitar around the age of thirteen and began writing songs right along the same time. Growing up in the Northeast Georgia Mountains, he was heavily influenced by gospel, bluegrass, and country music. As he got older, writing became more serious. Phillips is known as a “humble giant” who pens lyrics with insight far beyond his years. In 2018, Phillips was a part of the Grand Ole Opry’s WSM Radio Road Show. Also, in January of 2018, he released his debut gospel record entitled, “Saved By Grace.”

Jamie Adamson

Jamie Adamson began playing guitar at the age of 13 and like his Grandfather soon was making music on stage. Jamie began playing a snare and hi hat in church along side Ray Thompson from Mobile Alabama and developed that itch that all musicians get! By the time he turned 19 Jamie was playing locally in Mobile at local clubs like Austin's Country Palace, The Wild Wild West, other venues around the south. It wasn't long Jamie was packing his bags and heading north to Nashville where he spent the next 19 years developing his style, his voice, and his writing skills. Jamie shared a stage with greats like Steve Cropper, Jerry Waddell, Blind Mississippi Morris, Mark Collie, Terry Lee Burns, and Steve Saunders. All these talented individuals shared their love for music with Jamie and helped him build a solid foundation that will carry him through the rest of his career. So, if you love music, real honest music, with heartfelt lyrics, just take a listen and you will hear the difference.
Every month, Jamie will make the expedition up the Plateau to introduce us to some of the best writers in all of Tennessee. He has shared stages with some and written songs with many. The stories are enthralling, tapestries woven into song. So intimate, it's like being in your own living room. Once Experienced. Never Forgotten.

Justin and Cole have been performing and writing music together for near on 10 years. Honing in on their craft led them to the collaboration, 'Daytripper'. Focusing on acoustic instruments, they write in a style of alt-rock while incorporating instruments you'd normally hear in bluegrass music, such as the mandolin, banjo and upright bass. Both Justin and Cole have been lead vocalists in other groups, and use this to an advantage. They trade songs, using two unique voices to add an extra layer of originality to their music, while also belting out strong harmonies that they have crafted over many years of playing together at small parties and in the living rooms of each others houses. They bring that small house-show energy to any stage they perform on, leaving audiences stomping their feet and singing along like it's a simple campfire full of friends.
DAYTRIPPER ANNOUNCED SEPTEMBER 2021: "Super excited to have Jace England join Daytripper on percussion. This dude is legit and is now an official DayTripper."
Daytripper is a project by Justin Cecil, Cole Kemmer and Jace England to bring awesome new original music and a colorful acoustic spin on covers! Enjoy the show!
Due to reasons beyond our control, the archive of Daytripper is not available.
