"The Georgia Songbirds - Live From the Bird's Nest" is a podcast aimed at local artists and songwriters, giving them a place to share music, stories and experiences as they chase their dream.

Macartney ReinhardtThis week's special guest is Macartney Reinhardt, a 14 year old singer songwriter from Georgia. Listen in as we talk about Music, school, her goals, movies and so much more. She even plays us a few songs.

Teen pop-country recording artist Macartney Reinhardt is quickly catching the eye of industry executives and music lovers with her powerhouse vocals, her soulful, bluesy twang, and lyrics that come straight from the heart.

As part of a multi-generational musical family Macartney was exposed to a variety of styles and genres from an early age. The Atlanta, GA. native was captivated watching her dad perform when she was a toddler, and started singing along while he played guitar. At just 5 years old she knew she wanted to be a singer and knew she always wanted music at the center of her life.

This rising recording artist has performed all over Georgia in venues both small and large, from clubs to large outdoor events and music competitions. Macartney was one of just five musicians nominated for Teen Artist of the Year at the Georgia Country Awards, which honors the very best country musicians in the state. She performed in front of industry professionals and peers at the event, known as the “CMAs” of Georgia. In 2020, Macartney was chosen to compete in Georgia Has Talent, then in 2021 she was selected again as a contestant for the showcase event.

Live from the Birds Nest

Tune in each Saturday at 7pm central on WFMC Jams for a new broadcast week of New Music Food Truck!

This week's show features sizzling hot Summer menu full of new tunes from Coastal Fire Dept, The FMs, Gang of Youths, Major Spark, Liars, The Unlikely Candidates, Television Supervision, Hardwicke Circus, The Front Bottoms, Slothrust, Easy Life & Jen Fodor!

Kat Von DThis week's menu features the musical debut of tattoo artist, model and classically trained pianist L.A's Kat Von D.   Long before the history-making tattoos, ubiquitous television shows, best-selling books, and influential beauty empire, Kat Von D sat down at a piano for nearly two hours a day and played. In essence, music became her first creative language and most trusted outlet. Classical training and a deep appreciation for music of all genres essentially underscored her life. She studied voice under Ken Tamplin six days per week, strengthening her vocals. In 2012, she began writing with Linda Perry. Following this experience, Kat continued to write on her own, sitting at the piano and summoning songs from raw emotion. During 2014, she retreated to London to record the original mix of what would become her full-length debut album Love Made Me Do It.  It's a pastiche of shapeshifting analog synths, post-punk dreamscapes, gothic hues, and shy pop magnetism, with eleven songs that echo the eternal will of the perennially brokenhearted to love until death.  We talk with Kat about her music and if pineapple is OK on pizza on this week's Blue Plate Special.

Troy Underwood is a soul man. As simple and ultimately misleading as that may be, it’s about as close as anyone will ever come to describing him. With a voice that would be the envy of any in Nashville, and a groove as bone-deep as any blue-eyed soulsters’, Underwood can paint on as broad an aural landscape as he wishes. Whether it’s channeling Tony Joe White on his sizzling “Summertime In Georgia,” romancing the ether with “Dance In The Kitchen,” or bringing down the house with “Big Bottom Girls,” Underwood defies categorization.

Underwood hails from Ringgold, Georgia, where he learned to play the drums at four, and keyboards and guitar before reaching his teens. Possessed of a preternaturally old and soulful voice and the writing chops to compliment it, he seemed tailor made for the life of a troubadour. It was obvious to anyone who knew him that music was his calling. The only one who didn’t seem to know it was Underwood himself, and it would be some time before the call of his muse became too loud for even him to ignore.

Like many fledgling singer/songwriters, Underwood’s first experience came at local open mics where it quickly became obvious that he was no ordinary talent. His songs were immediately accessible, his playing sublime, and his voice... world weary yet hopeful, a gravelly drawl that carries weight, the voice of an old, old soul. As many of those who had to follow him at those first open mic performances would surely attest, it simply wasn’t fair.

Soon Underwood was pitching songs, first as a hobby but then with an increasing sense of determination. He moved to Nashville where he was soon teamed up with such writers as Wynn Varble, Shawn Harnett, Bobby Pinson, Mark Gray, and John Sturdivant Jr. He seemed well on the way to having a successful songwriting career before family issues intervened, and he was forced to return home to his native Ringgold.

Once home, Underwood began performing locally. A move to Chattanooga brought more opportunities, and soon he was gaining a following. He released the self-produced albums “Daydream” and “Drive,” and soon women as far afield as Atlanta were singing along when he’d perform. Hailed by critics – one of whom called him the long, lost love child of Stevie Wonder and Garth Brooks – Underwood has earned a loyal coterie of fans everywhere he plays. It’s not hard to understand why: This is what he was born to do.
