WFMC Jams

WFMC Jams

WFMC Jams is an online internet radio station committed to bringing you original music as well as your favorite classics from a variety of local artists in the area. The station was founded on June 24, 2012 right after the Third Annual Fam Jam music festival in Manchester, TN. The idea came up as a way to continue to give back to the local and regional songwriters and performers in the area year round by promoting their music.

Travis Bigwood and The Lonesome Doves are an Americana Folk band from Knoxville, TN. Their songs focus on storytelling.
"I started writing songs because I wanted to tell a story. I wanted to share the anthology of my experiences growing up in East Tennessee and feel that connection that only music can bring. I try to capture the sound of the hardships and all the goodness that echoes through these mountains."
"It’s the sound of a young man attempting to make peace with his past and coming to terms with the changes of his present — the realization that while he might not be where he was or even where he wants, that good things happen. There’s both celebration and solace in such a moment of clarity, and that Bigwood spins it into sonic gold is evidence of an artistic soul wise beyond the years of its mortal shell." - Steve Wildsmith of The Daily Times (Maryville, TN)

The W.C. Handy Music Festival is a little over a week long celebration of the musical heritage of northwest Alabama, honoring Florence native William Christopher.   Better known as W.C. Handy, the "Father of the Blues," his style of writing blues paved the way to become one of the most influential songwriters in the United States.  While working through many jobs, W.C. Handy also made the time to form a small string orchestra as well as teach music.  He would eventually land his first big hit in 1909 "The Memphis Blues."  He would later move to New York to continue his success in his publishing business and songs "Beale Street Blues," "Saint Louis Blues" and many others.

The W.C. Handy Festival was an idea inspired by Dr. David Mussleman and Dr. Willie Ruff became a reality with the efforts and coordination of Edsel Holden along with music venues in Florence and surrounding Shoals area.  Now in its 41st year, the festival boasted over 250 events with the efforts of the festival committee led by Tori Bailey.

Recording artist and saxophonist Dee Lucas was this year's headliner on July 30th, performing at the Norton Auditorium.  Dee has been performing over two decades after getting his start performing in a local band back in 1997 and going out on his own in 1999.  His latest single "Hot as Ice" was released earlier this year.

Sarah Faith

A Michigan-born Nashvillian, Sarah Faith is an artist-songwriter that builds her musical catalog and sound around her life’s experiences, including addiction, abuse, and mental health. As an independent Americana artist, Sarah has been strongly influenced by a diverse musical background. The result is a healthy mix of blues and roots rock, folk, alt-country, and indie rock genres. Her warm, soulful voice brings fans songs written about close-to-the-heart stories with a distinct kind of vulnerability and realness. Having dealt with depression and anxiety most of her life, Sarah aims to relate to her audience through her struggles. “We all deal with curve balls and unexpected turns in life. None of us are dealt perfect hands. I’ve just found a way to not let it control me. That’s what drives me to create music the most.” Since her abusive alcoholic mother lost her life to addiction in 2017, her ambitions have been ever-evolving, but one thing remains constant: “I want to show people that no matter how dark your story is or how ridiculous and crazy your family is, you have the choice; you can turn your struggles into good things.”Sarah released her debut album, Lessons From The Archives, in June 2021.
